Borderlands 4 continues the franchise's chaotic looter-shooter legacy on the planet Kairos. In the expansion Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, players face cosmic horror within the frigid Whispering Glacier. The mission Hearing Things deepens this mystery as players track Ellie, who has been lured away by a cursed necklace that forces her to hear her deceased father’s voice. After raiding a Scav warehouse and witnessing Ellie’s distress, players encounter an organic Eldritch barrier, or "clot." To bypass it, they must infiltrate a gruesome Shuggurath hatchery, where they harvest bizarre eggs and consume Shuggurath milk. Hurling these eggs at the barrier allows players to rip it apart and confront the boss, Corporal Brennan. Defeating his heavy mech in the Bloodstained Hollows rewards players with significant loot, marking a pivotal step in unraveling the secrets of the Vault of the Damned.
