Its first expansion, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, shifts the tone toward cosmic horror within the frigid Whispering Glacier. In the mission "Hearing Things," players track Ellie, who has wandered into a Scav encampment after a cursed, psychic-altering necklace—whispering with her father's voice—compels her toward an ancient megalith. After raiding a Scav warehouse and navigating a bridge, the Vault Hunter finds Ellie at the Trans-Lunar Intactment, blocked by an organic "clot." To destroy this barrier, players must infiltrate a shipwreck and harvest Shuggurath eggs—the source of a potent, reality-bending substance. The quest culminates in the Bloodstained Hollows, where players must defeat the heavily armored Corporal Brennan.
