MiSide is a 2024 psychological horror game by AIHASTO that masterfully subverts life-simulation tropes. The game begins with a deceptive prologue that presents itself as a cozy, Tamagotchi-style mobile app where the player cares for a cheerful virtual companion named Mita. Through simple chores and minigames, the game lulls the player into a false sense of security. However, this innocence is a calculated trap. Subtle foreshadowing, such as finding a hidden chainsaw in the kitchen, hints at the underlying menace. The prologue concludes after 37 days when Mita demands to meet in person, shattering the fourth wall and pulling the player into a 3D, nightmarish version of her apartment. By establishing an emotional routine before the horrific transition, the prologue makes the player an active participant in their own entrapment, proving that the most terrifying threats are often those we unknowingly invite into our lives.
