Borderlands 4 introduces players to the icy planet of Kairos, where the expansion Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned blends cosmic horror with the series' signature mayhem. Amidst the main campaign, the two-part side quest Symbiotic Security captures the franchise’s flair for deranged science. Set in the Bloodstained Hollow, the quest follows the eccentric scientist Daphne, who attempts to create a biological defense system by merging microscopic Lyken with a Thresher. The mission tasks players with gathering DNA before the experiment spirals into chaos, as the hybrids gain sentience and develop a taste for bandit flesh. After leading the monstrous beasts to feed on a Scav camp, the creatures grow too powerful, forcing the player to destroy them.
